Funky Reggae Shaka Buku on David Letterman

Shaka Buku has created a new breed of funky reggae with its hypnotizing melodies and groove based rhythms on its new album “Feel Different.” With “Set Yourself Free” we hear the introduction of the electric guitar using the wah-wah pedal while an accompanying acoustic guitar and keyboard double up on the melody creating a smorgasboard of melody. The song, just as most are a representation of the reggae tradition to create consicious music and speak about “setting yourself free from the criticisms and hardships of daily life.”

Super funky reggae is just about the only way you can describe “Stars are in the sky” an homage to the ridiculousness of hollywood lifestyle. Chad Scott an LA native who now resides in San Diego creates a Stevie Wonder like keyboard riff that gets you jumping to your feet. The song adds in a spanking horn section and one of the funkiest drummers I’ve ever heard. Stars are in the sky is really about coming back down to earth, giving up the egotistical urge to rise above everyone else and instead “share the light” of the stars above.

There are really only a few funky reggae bands that can pull off what Shaka Buku does and perhaps none as funky or moving. Sublime music, rebelution music, the Marley Brothers sorry to say can’t hold a candel to Shaka Buku. It seems only a matter of time before the rest of the world finds out about the funky reggae of Shaka Buku and they get their way overdue aknowledgment.

Can you imagine the funky reggae of Shaka Buku on Saturday Night Live, David Letterman or Jay Leno? Lets all pitch and support, buy and album or go to a concert, because that will be a day to remember.
